ALTON.
SCHOOL MATTERS
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
It is a recognised fact nowadays that environment plays an important part in education, and the Wanganui Education Board is endeavoring to improve the conditions of all their schools. With this aim in view they have issued a certificate of merit to all schools where the inspectors think the environment is excellent. About fivo schools gained this certificate in 1917 and about the same number were successful this year. As Alton has been awarded the excellence ortificate both years the people should be proud to know that their children have at least the benefits of good environment at their school.
