SAD DEATH OF HAWERA RESIDENT.
The friends of Mr Peter .Campbell, Egmont street, Hawera will regret to hear of his death, which took place at Kaponga on Saturday under rather peculiar circumstances. As far as can be ascertained, he was proceeding with a spring dray on the Lower Rowan road towards Mr White's residence, and on the way he had a conversation with Mr Pollard: Shortly afterwards, near Mr Jack Bolger's gate, he attempted to climb into the dray, presumably over the wheel, when the horse must have moved, causing him to receive injuries to the head as the result of the fall. Miss King found the body a little while after ,the accident. When the police arrived on the scene life was extinct. An inquest waa held yesterday, when a verdict of accidental death was returned. The deceased was of a quiet disposition, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. Reference to his death was made by the Rev. Mr Gray in the Presbyterian Church yesterday. The deceased leaves a wife and grown-up family. Two sons of the late Mr Campbell, Privates J, and P. Campbell, have given their lives in the service of their King and country.
