FRENCH AND AMERICAN COMMUNIQUES.
A RECORD OF VICTORIOUS PROGRESS. (Received Aug. "o, 12.5 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 4. A French communique states: During the day our troops, driving back the enemy rearguards, continued their glorious march on a front of about fifty kilometres in the direction of the Vesle. On our left we reached the southern banks of the Aisne and Vesle from Soissons to Fismes, the outskirts of which the Americans hoia. East of Fismes wereached a general line north of Courville, Brancourt, Courcelles and Cnampaigny. Our cavalry reconnaissances are operating along the SoissonsKheims railway. At certain points our progress exceeded since yesterday ten kilometres, and over fifty villages were liberated in a single day. An American official report states: The enemy was driven in confusion beyond the line of the Vesle. Since the oTrt J in the course of our operations, 8400 prisoners and 133 guns were captured by us.—Aus.-N.Z. C A and Reuter.
