HARD-UP SOCIAL.
The promoters of the hard-up sodal have reason to. be gratified at their success last night. The gross proceeds were £12 10s lid and net £8 10s lid. The secretaries, Mrs Rae and jSTr Thomas, together with their energetic committee, worked hard to bring this success about. Messrs J. Catley. ./. Dawbin and D. McGuinnese acted as M.C.'s, and Miss Gardiner officiated at the piano. The dresses of the dancers were varied, and ranged from comic to real hard-up costumes. Miss Lambie and Messrs Rogers, Carteir and Curteis judged and awarded tie prizes for the best hard-up costume to Miss Hendrieksen and Mr Grierson. The sum of £8 10s lid was handed to the chairman of the Mangatoki Patriotic Society as the committee's contribution to Our Soldier's Appeal Fund, which ha© now reached £308; So far the 'following donations have come from this district: Mr I>ambie, various stock valued at £18; Mr J. Carter £1
