CORRESPONDENCE.

DAY OF PRAYER

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —No doubt you will be printing the proclamation of King George in leference to the day of prayer. It is not suggested to hold a united service on this occasion.. It is expected that the people of Hawera will show their loyalty by obeying the King's command and attend their own places of worship. To join in the, Empire intercession as a people we should follow in a patriotic spirit the lead given by His Majesty the King. England's great sailor, Sir David Beatty, has written: "England has not been shaken out of her stupor and self-com-placency. She will do nothing until she has found her way to humility ! and prayer." Such words from so great an authority should make us pause and think. We believe we are engaged in a righteous cause and to be standing for what God desires and justifies. The task is a great one, and our faith in the God of Battles will be" helped by assembling in the true spirit of worship. I therefore urge this duty upon the citizens.— I am, etc., E. DIXON, Mayor.
