HAWERA BUGLE BAND.
It will be remembered that about three years ago Sergeant-Majors Mahoney and Dallinger organised a kind of rag-time band that collected funds in the streets towards buying instruments for a bugle band. Their collections, together with the proceeds of a ■wimming carnival carried out by the local Cadets resulted in about £18 being.collected. Then the movement appeared to lapse and lay dormant until Sergeant-Ma] or Hill recently revived it. As a result of his exertions eight bugles, three side drums and one bass drum arrived in Hawera on Saturday, and the bugle band will be organised straight away. Mr L. Rowson will be bugletmajor, and after parade to-night the band will be formed and commence practice immediately. There were not sufficient funds to pay the total cost of the instruments, and the balance of £8 odd will have to be provided for.
