SYDNEY, Oct. 25. At Gonnell's fire the damages are estimated at over £70,000. The police are convinced that it was of incendiary origin, owing to many suspicious circumstctnqes. During the fire an explosion occurred, leaving a smell of gunpowder and gelignite. The' water sup ply was deliberately 'cut off several times, and the outbreak resembled other mysterious fires. The building was riot fitted with sprinklers, and the alarm was not connected with the brigade.

Two attempts to fire a block in King street were frustrated. At these resin, spirit,; and candles were used.
