LONDON, Oct. 9. A German communique states: There is artillery and patrol activity south of Ypres and Artois. There is a tremendous artillery battle raging on the Somme. The enemy, if possible, is increasing his efforts. W.e inflicted pa-o- j portionately greater defeats, and have not lost the smallest section of a trench. The Anglo-French assaulted, regardless of losses, between Gueudecourt and Bouchavesnes, but they were repulsed every time. "We destroyed considerable trenches by mines in the Argonne. During September we lost twenty, aeroplanes, whilst the Anglo-French lost 129.

We pushed forward to Babaludowa, the enemy retreating along the whole line of eastern Transylvania. We irecaptured Foergzvar and Toerzburg.

German troops and \ustro-Hungarian monitors hold possession of. a Danube island north-west of Svistov.

We captured six guns east of the Monastir-Florina railway.

The enemy has obtained a foothold en the left bank of the Cerna.
