KAPONGA.
(From Our Own Correspondent)
The death of Mrs McCarthy, of Rowan, has cast quite a gloom over the district. Although quiet and Tinassuming. Mrs MoCarthy was always a very willing worker, especially in connection with her church, and as a helper in Kaponga, as well as Rowan, she will be sadly missed. Mr McCarthy and relatives will have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends. Mrs McCarthy was a sister of the champion rifle shot, Mr D. Roots, of HurleyviUe. The circumstance that the funeral took place at Patea on Sunday would prevent many friends from paving their last respects, owing to tlie distance from here. \ The Ladies' Patriotic Guild are still piling up garments for our boys at the front, and another large case will very soon be ready for shipment. I understand the Guild intends to hold its annual general meeting on Frids»v ; at the Parish Hail, where it is hepeil j there will be a good attendance.
