Referring to the unfortunate' drownving accident at Patea, whereby Angus McLeod, the well-known piper, was drowned, the Opunake Times says that deceased was well-known in this dlstrtict and leaves a wife and1 seven children. Mrs McLeod is the- daughter of Mr and Mrs DesForges, of Opunake. We extend our sympathy to the>- bereaved family.

A meeting of the Hawera Technical School Committee, held last evening, was attended by Messrs E. Dison (chairman), C. 0. Ekdahl, R. Tait, 0. A. Struck, F. Stevens, J. B. Murdoch, F. \V. Warcup, R. Browne (supervisor. >■. and H. Jackson (director). The director reported the roll number to be 2U5, with an average attendance of 233. This showed a slight falling off, due to the cessation of the ambulance classes —which were very, strong—for the season. The Education Board forwarded the report of the Technical Schools Inspector (Mr Isaac), who. said: "The technical classes at this centre are confined to English*, arithmetic, commercial subjects, woodwork.-, cookery, and dressmaking, and, judging by the classes inspected, satisfactory wo.vk is in progress." The chairman suggested that it would be a good "thing to approach the Hawera County Council for a contribution.,, and it was decided to do so, and to, point out that the Borough Council had always given a contribution to the school annually. Messrs Ekdahl and Hurdoch. were appointed a visiting committee for the month,.
