The total raised by self-denial by the Salvation Army in England this year is now officially announced at £77,915, an increase of £6555 oi last year, and an advance of over £5000 on the highest figure ever before reached by the Army's self-denial fund. A youth was before the Timaru Magistrate'c Court charged with having used offensive language (says the Herald). The Magistrate made severe comments on the !case, and the culprit stated that he had picked up the filth at school. A solicitor, who was in court, asked if this was the result of t^eir boaSted education; to which the Magistrate replied that it looked more like the result of lower education.
