A telegram from Napier states that a magnificent display oi the Aurora Australis was witnessed from that town last night. A public meeting will be held in the Town Hall. Normanby, on Tuesday, at 7.30, in connection with the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. According to a cooper, whose creditors met at Christchurch (says the Lyttelton Times), one of the first effects of the war in Canterbury was to stop people making wine, cider, and other home drinks. He said,that that kind of thing, naturally, was regarded as a luxury, and was in the first list of items to' be struck off the expenses. The result was that fewer vats and kegs were required, and the cooper's business was gone. In addition, the price of timber had risen, adding another difficulty. ARE YOU AN INVENTOR?
