A London cable message states; that the King has conferred the Order of Merit on Lord Haldane.

An Athens cable message states that King Oonstantine shows unfavorable symptoms, and another operation is probable. Though he is very weak, there is no immediate danger.

■At the annual meeting of the Hawera Acclimatisation Society on Wednesday evening the President (Mr C. Goodson) referred feelingly to the demise of Mr J. Livingston, who, he said, had always been a staunch supporter of the society. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the deceased was carried in silence, the members standing. Mr Goodson also referred to the serious illness of Mr G. McLean, one of the pioneers of the society. The president said that Mr McLean had fathered the Sbciety, and had always made a point of being present at the annual meeting, and had ever been ready to impart his knowledge, which was Very valuable. The society could ill afford to lose the services of the old pioneers. He moved a vote of sympathy wth Mr McLean in his illness, and that it be recorded in the minutes. This was seconded by Mr Budge, who spoke of the valuable services rendered to the society by Mr McLean, and carried.
