ALTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The local Tennis Club issued a challenge to the Mokoia Club to have a friendly match, and went there on Saturday. The weather was perfect for tennis playing, and all spent a very enjoyable day. Before dispersing Mr Gibbs, on behalf of the Alton Club, thanked the Mokoia Club for the enjoyable day they had spent, and hoped they would soon have a chance of returning, on their own ground, the hospitality which Mokoia had shown them. He concluded by calling for three hearty cheers for their opponents. Mr Bell (Mokoia), in declaring Alton the winners, said he hoped to be able to play a return match in about a month's time. He then called for cheers for the victors, and these were heartily given. On Sunday the new vicar of the Pa-*-ea parish (the Rev. Neville Barnett), conducted his first service in Alton. There was a large attendance, and the sermon, which was most impressive, was listened to with interest by the congregation.
