THE WAR AND COLLEGE WORK.
In the annual report of the Wellington College Old Boys' Association several references are made to the war, the influence on the Association, and the part the old boys are taking in it. Th 9 following extracts will be read with interest by many old boys and by others not associated with the College, one of- the oldest in the- Dominion:—
"It was originally intended to hold i the annual dinner on the same evening | as Old Beys' Day, -but your committee decided that under existing cir-J cumstances the .dinner should not be held, but that, instead, an Old Boys' I Fund should be inaugurated for the relief of distress in Great Britain, Ireland, and Belgium. The subscriptions received for this fund amount to over £40, which has been forwarded to the hon. treasurer of the fund referred to. The-sum would have been larger but for. the fact that so many old boys had already subscribed to public appeals in the same direction. Preparations were made during the year for the holding of the annual ball in conjunction with the Old Girls' Association, but on account of the war it was decided not to go on with the fniiction. The repoi-t would.be incomplete without a reference being made to the present war aiid to the ready response made by old boys to the Empire's call. With .the advance expedi-tionary-foi'ce now in Samoa there are over one hundred old boys, and a still .greater number of our members have left with the main expeditionary force and its reinforcements. An effort is being made to compile • a list of all these old boys."
