GERMANY'S LATE PACIFIC SQUADRON. SOME PARTICULARS. In reference- to the message announcing the sinking of the Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Leipzig and the chase of the Nurnburg and Dresden, these cruisers were responsible for the •defeat of Admiral Craddock's squadron in the action off the Chilian coast, when the Good Hope and Monmouth I were sunk, and the Glasgow forced [ to take shelter at Coronel. The Scharn- • horst and Gneisenau were sister ships 1 armored cruisers, both of 11,600 tons 1 armed with eight 8.2 and six 5.9 guns and were launched in 1906. The Leipzig was a protected cruiser of 3200 tons" armed with ten 4.1 guns, the Dresden; aovz tons, has a similar armament and so has the Nurnburg (3400 tons). It will h& remembered that the bcharnhorst and Gneisenau were said to have been, since the war began, at one time within three days' steam of New Zealand.
