TECHNICAL SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Hawera Technical Scnool Committee was neid on Thursday evening, wlien tiiere were present: Messrs E. Dixon (chairman), <J O. Ekdahl, J. Roe, J. h. Murdoch, H. W. vvarcup, R. i<'. Page, li. Browne (supervisor), and H. vv. Jackson (direccor). ■..."-..■
The director's report stated that the enrolments and .average ,attencianc3s were considerably lower-than for the previous month, owing to the closing down of several classes. There were now 16 .classes in operation. The book-keeping classes had been poorly suppoi-ted, and the reason, was very hard to rind. The dressmaking class had received more support than that m cookery. The tormer probably proved immediately useful to the girls. The classes in English, arithmetic, shorthand and-typing were satisfactorily attended. The typewriter fund had been closed with a total of £51 18s 6d. Compulsory attendance ends for this year with the present month. The total number of individual students for the year was 216. as against 195 for last" year-. Of these 25 were junior free place students. 2 were senior free place students., 57 were compulsory, and 124 were other students.
The. Chairman suggested that with reference to the book-keeping classes it would be a good thing to canvass the business people for students for the coming year. It was agreed to keep the suggestion
