DISTRESS RELIEF FUND

As announced last niglrfc, Messrs Smith and Eastern intend holding a gift auction on Thursday afternoons at "1 o'clock, when gifts of produce, furniture, poultry, and, in fact, anything that can be turned into money, will be auctioned; and the gross proceeds handed to the treasurer of the District Relief Fund. The names of donors of gifts will be published in the Star after each sale. A systematic canvass of the tradespeople has already been started, and a very liberal response has been made. Gifts of tea, fish, groceries, drapery, Hollow-ware, crockery, toys, pictures, grain, chaff, garden roller, suits, mercery, ete. r, etc., have already been made, also a. Union Jack. Many private people, however, have, articles* of furniture and other things for which they have no use, and this appeal is made to them to help to swell the fund.
