"NERO AND, AGRIPPINA."
ON FRIDAY NIGHT
One of the greatest motion pictures in the world will be shown for one night only in Hawera on Friday evening at the Opera House. Foi* eight months the activities of the Gloria Company and an immense army of artistes were absorbed by the work in connection with this picture, and surely no production has involved a greater amount of care and research in its doing. Houses, temples and streets have been built with the most scrupulous legard for accuracy ' } the scenes in the arena were taken m the famous arena of Verona, for which special pel mission had to be obtained from ihe Government; all the dresses used by the principal actors and actresses were, specially made, and every effort has been exerted to reconstruct scenes in the film as they occurred in the buried centuries. It is declared that the work of reconstructing a world long since destroyed in a way which neither the verses of the^ poets nor the brush of the_ great painters can accomplish achieved in a masterly fashion in" this great Gloria film. "Nero" on the screen recalls the throbbing life of thousands of years ,ago. The picture re-creates, so to speak, the moment in which the men of those days lived, the men whom the people now living know from both traditions and history. Kinematography gives lis the biography of a man or the history of a whole epoch with marvellous clearness and faithfulness when well done. And this'is what the Gloria Film Company have done in "Nero." The audience sees again the pomp of the Roman houses peopled by slaves, the elegance of Oriental vestments, the opulence of banquets upon.which fabulous sums were spent, and at which the descendants of the men who had conquered the world afforded the basest spectacles of moral decay and degeneration. The box plan for this picture is now open at the theatre.
