8V n\BLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT. (Received June 1, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 31. In a gas explosion at Silkstone Colliery, Wharncliffe, eleven men were killed.

The rescuers, after three hours of dangerous work, brought the injured men to the surface, but most of them succumbed.

The news caused the beraking up of cricket and other sports, and a wild stampede to the pithead.
