MEXICAN MOBS
'•'DEATH TO AMERICANS."
WAR INEVITABLE
!ST CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received April 25, 1 p.mU WASHINGTON, April 24. A train arrived at Vera Cruz from Mexico City with British and German refugees aboard. It is reported that mobs in Mexico City trampled the American flag in the dust during a demonstration outside the American Club, and also smashed windows and shouted insults. The position of -Americans is regarded as critical, as excited Mexicans are continually .parading the streets and shouting "Death to Americans!" It is feared, that if the Americans make a forward movement from Vera Oruz outrages will occur. British, German and French residents are preparing for concentrated resistance in certain districts, in which provisions are being accumulated, j The newspapers are under strict \ -censorship, but they are publishing { varied stories of Mexican successes -against Americans in wholly imaginary -battles. Communication with the out;side world is cut off. General Huerta is understood to have promised strict protection to all foreigners, and is providing guards for the American Embassy. Every available warship is now bound to Mexico. The President, is making unexampled preparations for war, which is recognised as inevitable. The Texas Guards have, been ordered, to patrol the entire border, as little reliance is placed on General Villa's protestations of friendship.
