BOWLING.

AUCKLAND v. HAWERA

Four rinks on tour from Auckland Club arrived in Hawera on Wednesday morning. They were met at the train, and after being entertained at morning tea by Hawera Club were taken for a motor drive round the Plains via Okaiawa, and shown objects of interest, including the electric light works and the Hawera Dairy Factory. At the former Mr Templer, the erigineer, and at the latter Mr Dunlop, the manager, gave them a cordial welcome, showed them over the works and explained the various processes and workings carried on at the two institutions. The visitors were delighted to see both. To several of them, who' are dwellers in Auckland city, the working of a cheese and butter factory was quite a new experience, and they were most interested." After lunch a 25-head game was played, with the following results (Auckland being mentioned first in each case):

Roberts, Ashton, Prime, Hemus, 17; Syme, Crabb, A. Robertson, Parkinson, 19.

Coldicott, Shore, Quin, Wilson, 33; Hodge, Adamson, Tarrant, Hollard, 17. PattisoiT Lovett, Court, Car tan, 16; E. Hollard, Keen, Shore, Foy, 32. Atkin, Spence (sub.), Mewburn, Diddows, 14; Reilly,' McNiven, Tait, R. Hicks, 37.

At the conclusion of the game the president (Mr W. A. Parkinson) briefly expressed the pleasure it gave the Hawera bowlers to meet the travelling Auckland rinks, and he expressed the hope that should they at any future time be on tour, Hawera would again be included in their itinerary. Three hearty cheers were then given for the visitors.

Mr Hemus, in reply, jocularly referred to the fact that when the rinks left home the individual members fancied they could bowl; but the conceit had been taken out of them, for the further they went the worse they got —some of them. However, a most pleasant time had been spent on the Hawera green, and the beating they had received -was more than made up for by the kindness shown them. A hearty invitation was given to Hawera bowlers to pay a return visit to Auckland where they would be treated right royally.

Three cheers for Havvera bowlers, and a similar compliment to the ladies who had so liberally dispensed afternoon tea, terminated a most enjoyable out--ing.
