WIRTH'S CIRCUS, LTD

This celebrated circus will arrive in Hawera during the night, and will give one entertainment to-morrow night (Thursday, March 5). The circus has been coming here for so many years that it needs no introduction to the readers of this paper. Its performances have always been excellent and up to date. This year the spectacle is of more than ordinary merit, and there are nearly 100 performers in the company. They include Dare-Devil Desperado, the aerial athlete, who will leap head-foreniost from a height of •7ft., alighting on a concave platform of solid wood upon his chest and hands. La Belle Victoria, the queen of the aerial swinging wire, is said to be the most beautiful woman in the profession. Alfredo, the great trapeze artist, the renowned Nelson family of Risely performers and acrobats, the Stair sisters, the flying Codonas, the Bastein family of acrobats and equestrians, the Bobson sisters, and a host of others will also appear. There are thrilling exhibitions of training wild animals, including Herr Doblados' performing pigs and sheep, Buttinski the fighting ram, the wonderful performances by a group of snowy white Polar bears. Then the zoological collection contains lions, lionesses, two beautiful lion cubs, tigers, leopards, jaguars, various species of bears, water buffaloes, sacred cattle from India, camels, elephants, a hairless horse, Romulus (half horse and half zebra), the only bison in Australia, and Lizzie (a hippopotamus, also the only one in Australia). The large zoo opens from 4 to 5 p.m.
