"TRACKLESS" SIDINGS.

An original solution of the railway siding problem is suggested by a report published in the Railway Review concerning the North-Eastern Railway Company. A good deal has been heard during recent years of trackless ;trams," says the periodical in question, "but if rumour be not a- lying jade, we are to see trackless trains on the North-East-ern, with the only difference that, while trams are expected to run, the trains are to be stationary. It is reported that enquiries are being made of the traffic inspectors as to what land there is available adjacent to the railway suitable for accommodating waggons when not in use. Instead of going to the expense of making a permanent way, the waggons are to be lifted bodily by means.of a crane, on to Mother Earth, and there allowed to rest until required."
