VERY MUCH MARRIED.
Hagerstown in Maryland, America, boasts in Mr and Mrs Frank Vernon the most married couple in the wide world if the story told concerning them is true. They were, it is stated, duly married for the first time, according to the laws of • the State of Ohio, in 1909, and since then they have gone through the ceremony in different places no less than ten times, and their life appears to have been a long sequence of honeymoon tours. They hold marriage certificates, it is said, which have been issued to them in Canada, England, Scotland, Wales, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Russia, Belgium, and Mexico. In some places where they were married they did nfit understand a word the officiating clergyman or civil marriage official was saying and made their responses to whajt they presumed were questions by nodding their heads when jthey thought the time had come to make reply. Mr Vernon declares that he and his wife adopted this plan of remarriage in whatever country they were touring or staying in order to make quite sure that in event of falling into trouble there could be no question as to their being man and wife in the eyes of the law of whatever land they made their temporary domicile in: He declares tliat he will always carry out the plan whenever he and his wife strike a new country on their travels, because in some foreign countries marriages performed in others are not recognised.
