The Hawera police received word today that the woman Hazel Stanley, who was recently assaulted in a gig between Hawera and Stratford, had died in the Stratford Hospital this morning. The rapid construction of the Strat-ford-Ongarue railway from the Stratford end was urged by a deputation consisting of -Messrs J. B. Hine, H. J. H. Okey, and G. V. Pearce, which waited upon the Hon. W. Eraser Minister for Public Works) and the Hon. AY. F. Massey (the. Premier) on Tuesday (says a message to the Chronicle). The representations of the deputation j were intended as a counterblast to an agitation which has recently been raised in the Auckland with .a. view to having attention concentrated upon the Auckland end of the railway. Both Ministers stated that'there would be a substantial vote for the railway this year, and that they had no. intention of curtailing the work at the Stratford end. N.Z.
