MANGATOKI.

[PEOM OTJE OWN COEEEBFONDENT.] At a school committee meeting held last week it was decided to authorise the headmaster to collect, on behalf of the committee, subscriptions towards the £50 required for the drainage f=i'heme. I understand that the required permission has been obtained to instal the ram on and to take pipes across private property. We have now an orchestra, in our midst, which has the appellation of the "Knut" Orchestra. Their initial performance 'is on Thursday evening next, when the young men are giving a dance, the proceeds to go in equal shares to the school and to the hall. The members of the orchestra have been practising assiduously, and patrons are promised something novel and good. On Thursday evening last Mrs Dawbin entertained the ladies' bazaar and hall committees at her residence. A very enjoyable time was spent, and during the evening the chairman of the hall committee, on behalf of the ladies, read the balance-sheet, which Vowed receipts £112 0s od and balance £80 3s 9d. The turnover shows the total receipts since the starting of the bazaar, including afternoon teas, dances, etc. The expenses include the amount spent on drapery, etc., for the making up of articles, cost of art union prizes, etc. The chairman congratulated the ladies upon showing such .i clear balance-sheet. Afterwards, in :. -V.rt speech, Mrs Curteis thanked her f>.-;'.U;\v workers for their support in working up the bazaar and especially mentioned the joint secretaries, Mesdames Dawbin and Symmans. Mrs Dawbin suitably replied. The singing of Auld Lang Syne brought the evening to a close.
