GISBORNE, Oct. 24. The Poverty Bay Turf Club opened its spring meeting at Makaraka to-day in showery weather. The heavy rain of the night before made the going very heavy. There was a good attendance, and £10,551 was put through the totalisator, as compared with £8529 on the corresponding day of last year. Results :—■
Trial Handicap.—Wee Rose, 1; Winning Post, 2; Goldemar, 3. Also started: Scorch, Caher Davon, and Sylverlite. Won by two lengths. Time. 1.21 1-5.
First Hurdles. —Sleacombe, 1; Reservoir, 2; Game, 3. Also started: Stra'thmoira, Doggerbank, Zulu, and Queen. Won by two lengths. Time, 2.36 2-5.
First County Stakes.—Auldearn, 1; Marangi, 2; Faggot, 3. Also started: Repeal and Taiti. Won by five leii"-ths Time, 1.22.
Spring Handicap.—Loch Maben, 1; Sea Pink ; 2; Birkline, 3. Also started: Iney, Multiply, Spate. Won by a length. Time, 2.19. First Welter Handicap.—Waikehua, 1 ; Leahora, 2; Ardfelt, 3. Also started: Haku, Rising Sun, Earl Percy, Colleen Dim, Omatere, and Preston Pans. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time, L3l 4-5.
Final Hack Flat —Waikehua, 1; Tyne Lass, 2; Prince Eddie, 3. Also started: Compliment. Won by a length. Time 1.54."
