SCHOOL COMMITTEE

LFBOM OUB, O\\ll CORESPONDENT.]

A meeting of the School Committee yras held on Tuesday, when the following members were present: Messrs Cockerton (chairman), W. Green, K. Hall, Hamilton, Dee, and Shrimpton. The headmaster (Mr Mitchell) reported that the number of pupils on the roll was 167, and the average attendance for the past month 137, which was a record for the school. The quarterly examination had been Tield, and steady progress was being made in all classes. On the motion of the Chairman and Mr Dee, repairs to windows and ventilators were authorised. The Chairman brought up the matter of the school paddock, the arrangements for which, he said, were unsatisfactory, the fences being neglected and old trimmings' from last year unburnt. The paddock really was the perquisite of the headmaster, but seeing that he did not require it for his own use, he (the Chairman) thought that if any benefit were to be derived from,, the paddock it ought to go to the school funds. On the motion of Messrs Cockerton and Green, it was decided ot apply to the Education Board for permission to lease the paddock for grazing purposes. The headmaster, was requested to interview. Mr D. Green, who occupies the paddock, and arrange for the fences, etc., to be seen to. It was decided to enter for the school <listrict farmers' class at the approaching "Winter Show. A meeting of farmers and others interested will be held <m Tuesday, the 21st inst. in the reading, room, to make the necessary arrangements. The Chairman and Mr Shrimpton ■were authorised to sign cheques and Messrs Dee and Hall were appointed a visiting committee for the month.
