[FBOM OUB OWN COEEESPONDErTT.3 The open stakes of the Egmont Coursmg Club were held on Wednesday and Thursday last on grounds owned by Messrs McKeown, Stevenson, Lambier Forsyth, Good, and Campbell. Mr McKeown kindly supplied the sportsmen with excellent- and abundant fare. The visitors including Mr J. Jenkinson, from Elthfim, with .a buggy-load of men ami dogs. Mr Jenkinson acted as judge, and Messve Edwards and Forsyth as slippers. Eight dogs entered for the stakes. The hares were plentiful, but were, unfortunately, put up out of striking distance, and many good runs were missed. The club has decided to invest in good hunting-dogs, which will mean more frequent runs, as many hares were missed *>wing to lack of hunters. The stakes were unfinished, and will be resumed oh June 1, starting from the Oeo Hotel at 11 a.m. There are four dogs left in>the final. Several times the dogs were slipped,. but the hare was either unsighted or had dodged behind a fence before a turn could be registered. Many local dogs were not- entered, as the owners did not considervthem in sufficient training for the outsidevfcalent. It is hoped that the local sportsmen will have a strong representation of does for the club's next event. "- 'i The following runs were decided: Mir " l F.
