On May 10 our usual fortnightly stock sale was held at Han-era. Hoth. cattle and sheep were yarded in fairly large numbers. There was a fair allrour.d demand, and the bulk of the stock yarded found buyers. Light fat cows brought £5 5s to £5 10s; forward cows, £4 os to £4 17s 6d; store cows, £3 Is 6d to £3 18s; aged cows, £2 to £2 15s; tinners, £i lUs to £2; bulls, £3 10s to £5; 2-year heifers, in calf, £4 to £4 ss; ditto, Jersey cross, £5 to £5 ss; dairy cows, in calf, £4 15s to £6 l()s; 15-month steers, £3 2s to £3 ss; weaner heifers, £1 14s 6d to £2; ditto t Jersey cross, £2 15s 6d; mixed weaners (small) 17s to £1 7s 6d; forward wethers 14s sd; 2, 4, and 6-tooth wethers, 12s to 12s 6d, store ewes, 8s 2d; store lambs, small', 6s to 7s; cull lambs, 3s 2d to 4s; store pigs, small, £1 2s; slips, 12s Our usual monthly horse fair was held at TattersalPs on May 11, over 80 horses being catalogued. There was a good attendance, and we had a successful sale. A couple of teams of heavy draughts offered on account of Mr J. Redding sold well. Heavy draughts brought £33 to £40; ditto, aged, £23 10s to £27 10s; light draughts, £22 to £27; light unbroken draughts, £15 to £18 10s; carriage horses (good), £21 to £23 ; delivery cart horses, £13 to £18; light harness horses, £11 -10s to £TJT; hacks, £7 to i £15; weeds, £3 to £6; ponies, £4 10s to £7 10s. At Opunake on May 13 we had a fair yarding of cattle. Store and young cattle were mostly in demand, and sold well. Fat cows made £5 5s to £5 17s ,sd; forward cows £4 to £4 15s: store cows, £3 3s to £3 16s; aged cows' £2 5s to £2 12s; bulls, £3 5s to £5 7s 6d; 3year heifers in calf, £5 to £5 6s; 2 to 2£ ditt©, £4 5s to £4 15s 6d; empty heifers, £2 15s to £3; Jersey cross weaner heifers, £2 12s to £2 16s 6d; weaner steers, £1 Ss to £1 13s; weaner heifers, £1 10s to £1 18s; mixed weaners, £1 5s to £1 13s 6d. At Manaia on May 14 we had a good yarding, principally female cattle being yarded. Ther3 was a good attendance and a good proportion of the stock yarded was disposed of. Fresh-conditioned empty cows brought £5 to £5 ss; forward cows, £4 2s 6d to £4 15s; -store cows, £3 to £3 16s; aged cows, £2 2s 6d to £2 los; dairy cows in calf, £4 to £5 10s; 18-month bulls, £2 5s to £3 2s od; 2-year heifers in calf (good), £6 • mixed weaners, £1 13s; cull ewes, 4sstore pigs,.£l l s to £1 8s; 2-year halfdraught filly, £14 15s. Good business is being done privately, and the following prices have been obtained since our last report.
