MATAPU.

LPEOM OUR OWN COEEESrONDE-TT.]

The Matapu Social Club had a verysuccessful evening for its opening entertainment of the season last evening. Over eighty persons sat down at the card tables, and after a spirited contest the prizes were won by Miss O'Sullivan and Mr Botten. About 10 o'clock supper was partaken of, and then the hall' was cleared and a most enjoyable dance was held for some hours. They say comparisons are odious, but I 'heard the opinion expressed that the supper was good, the floor oetter, and the music best. Another reversed the order and put the supper in the'superlative, but then, Mr Editor, he was not a dancer. At-anyrate, everyone agreed .that the evening had been most enjoyable and the function most successful.
