ARARATA.
(From a Correspondent.)
The Ararata Gun Club had another gathering yesterday. Sparrows were to have been the attraction, but a sufficient supply had not been obtained, so "clay birds" were used. The proceedings opened with a "curtain raiser' 'in the shape of a sweepstake, but I have not at present the names of the winners. Then followed two handicap sweepstakes, and in each case there were some 14 entrants, 10 birds being allotted to each. In the first match^ Messrs Nickel, Hurrell, and Greaves tied with five birds each, and in the shoot-off were, placed in the order in which their names appear. In the second, the shooting, improved considerably, Messrs Greaves and Clements obtaining eight birds each, while Mr R. Linn took third place with seven. In shooting off for first place, Mr Greaves was successful, and thus ended a very pleasant afternoon's sport. Mr C. A. Budge again acted as handicapper and referee.
