ENTERTAINMENTS.

E THE WORLD'S PICTURES.

At the Opera House on Saturday evening, ther large audience present was treated to a lengthy programme of excellent pictures. Some interesting views in Scotland, including Rothesay Bay and the tomb of the kings on lona Island, were shown, and also a glimpse at Fingal's Caye, together with the Giant's Causeway, the remarkable basaltic formation on the coast of Ireland. A natural history film showed magnified views of the mantis—more familiarly known as the "walking-stick"—engag-ed in preying on smaller insects, and revealed it as possessed of bloodthirsty instincts not to be guessed at from it's inconspicuous exterior. The dramas, "The Writing on the Blotter," "Silas Marner," and "Hungry Hearts" (the latter depicting how the two children of a society couple feigned illness in order to secure a demonstration of affection from their parents) were first-class of their kind, and found great favor with those present. The trick comedy film, "The Conquest of the Pole," was a remarkable production, and left the uninitiated spectator wondering how such effects could have been -obtained. The film is very comical, and in' addition provides some fine examples of colorgraphy, and is well worth seeing. Some other first-class comics are also included m the programme, which will be repeated this evening. Appropriate music was provided by the Lyric Orchestra.
