PERSONAL ITEMS.
Frank Hutchens, the young Hawera pianist, played last week with the Christchurch Orchestral Society one of Greig's great concertos, and gained much credit for his performance. He gives a-concert-"in Christchurch this week, and his prospects are said to be excellent. Recently he gave one in Nelson, and was very successful.
The Rev. J. E. Watts Ditchfield, who is coming to New Zealand to lecture to branches of the C.E.M.S., has done, and is doing, good work in the East End of London. At Bethnal Green, where he is at'present at work, he has achieved wonderful results, and draws the people in a wav that before seemed not possible. He is.described as not so much a great preacher as a man with great fores'of character, and a powerfully direct way of telling the message he hns to bring. The members of the C.E.M.S. throughout the dominion are eagerly looking forward to his visit:
A London cablegram announces the death of Lord Euston, the eldest son of the seventh Duke of Grafton. He was born in November, 1848. ,
Mr A. D. Dobson, city surveyor of Cliurstchurch, arrived 'in Hawera on Saturday, to make a report upon the water supply of the borough.
