AT TXL*U&APH -P»ESB APROCUTIOH.
AUCKLAND. May 9. A statement in regard to his resignation from the position of chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand was made by Mr Harold Beauchamp to a Herald reporter this evening:—"My reason foi intimating to the Government my desire to be relieved of the position of chairman of the Band after the expiration of my last term, namely on March 31, was solely on v acconnt of toy health." said Mr TJeauchamp. "I wrote the Minister for Finance to that effect on February 6 last- Prior, however, to the receipt of-my-letter by at least a week, the Cahinet resolved not to reappoint me. Thii. no doubt, was due to the attitude I had always assumed as chrti'-man of the Bank." In other words, 1 M-ould not at any time let my own opinions be subservient to political exigencies. That is all I have to say in this connection at present."
