A TRAVELLER'S IMPRESSIONS.
An Australian at present residing in Egypt writes to the hon. secretary of the- British Immigration League, Sydney, as follows :-=-r «-
"As one who has been l'oaining ever thio globe from north to south and east to west for tne past-16 years, lam r,oi-« convinced every day that Australia is in every way the best country in the world for good-, sound people of British descent to settle in. k It is especially attractive 'to the English, Irish, Scotch, and Welsh, because, though they may have to travel^ 12,000 miles to come to you, !they are thrown into environments more or less familiar to them, and amongst people— a strong, sturdy, growing, people —who are the offspring of themselves. In Canada to-day perple are confronted by aliens of the lowest type, and a climate that for six months closes the country practically uv/n, and which makes life execeptionally irksome for women. In South Afiica they would have to compete -vith European aliens, many of whom are ever 'ready for employment, regardless of the hours of .work or the pay. The only chance Australia has "of retaining the high standard of life you are at present enjoying is by doing your utmost to get the British to come to you. .- t "At present there are thousands rod thousands in the old country prepaied to join you; but if you are too-long over preparations I fear they will not wait for you."
