RAVAGES OF DISEASE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. SYDNEY, May 30. The Island steamer brings news of a disastrous epidemic of measles and dysentery among the natives of Rotumah Island, which has been raging for two months. Some of the villages nave been almost decimated. It is estimated that the population has been reduced from 2460 to barely 1900. The bulk of the fatal cases are amongst the young and strong population, the elderly largely escaping.
