* —, — [raoM ova own cobbespondentj The ordinary monthly meeting of the Manaia Town Board was held in the Board office on Friday evening. Present —Messrs Christie (chair), Bigham, Cosgrove, and Meuli. Tennis Club was granted permission to remove a few loads of earth from side of road for top dressing. Hon. Secretary Waimate Plains Library wrote thanking the Board for donation of £7 10s to the library funds. From Capt. Taylor (Fire Brigade) enclosing a price list of fireworks received and notifying the Board that the Brigade intend putting on a display on Coronation night, consisting of torchlight procession, bonfire, etc., and notifying that he understands that fireworks' displays on that occasson carry a Government subsidy. It was decided that Captain Taylor be thanked for his letter, and the clerk write and obtain all information about the matter, and a public meeting be called at a future date to decide on the display to be held. It was decided to obtain prices from Messrr A. Franklin and J. Borrie for re-lettering on the Monument in gold, and also in black The chairman reported that Hon. T. Mackenzie had intimated that {he Cabinet had decided to transfer the section next the Post Office to the Manaia Library on condition that the Town Board exchanged another section for it. The clerk was instructed te write thanking the. Hon. T. Mackenzie for his action in the matter. Tenders were accepted for the lease of sections as follows:—1| acres domain, J. J. Meldon, £4 10s per annum; 12 acres, Lloyd and McVicar, £27; 9 acres, £29 7s 6d, J. Mourie; 14 acres (Cemetery reserve) £43 10s, J. Mourie; 2£ acres Domain, A. L. Young, £12. Chairman's action in accepting Mr Butler's tender for formation of paths in the Cemetery was approved. After discusion re fire well neajr Jones and Borrie's shop it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the' Works' Committee to have it done at once. Accounts for £73 3s 7d were passed for payment.
