THE RAILWAY TIME-TABLE

NEW PLYMOUTH TO NAPIER..

At the meeting of the Hawera branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union on Saturday, Mr F. Livingston moved a resolution, "That tho Minister for Railways be written to asking him to extend the trial of the through service between Now Plymouth and Napier in one day to twelve months." Speaking in support of the resolution, Mr Livingston said that tho servico was more in tho interests of the farmers than of the towns. The farmers, who must find tho one-day connection very useful, sat tight and allowed the little tin-pot Chambers of Commerce to have all th© say. A three months' trial was not sufficient; in fact, tho service ought not to be abandoned at all. Mr Davidson: You have given no proof that it is in the interests of the farmers. Mr Livingston : Yes# I have. I say it is a convenience for the farmers. Mr G. Taylor considered the through service was a convenience to any of the travelling public as well as to the farmers. The president (Mr Corrigan) favored the servico being continued. He himself had found it useful. Napier was now against the service because the express got in a couple of hours later than it formerly did; the cabbies objected to the lateness of the hour at which tho train got into Napier. Wanganui and Dannqvirke also objected to the change, especially the latter town, because under tho former time-table travellers had to remain overnight at the southern Hawke's Bay town. Mr »A. \ Johnston© seconded the motion, which was carried. It was decided to send the resolution to tho Provincial Executive, asking that it bo forwarded on to the Dominion secretary and tlionco to tho Minister.
