ALTON.
(From a Correspondent.) The Hall Committee held their weekly euchre party on Friday night, and were again favored with a large attendance/ The winners were Miss N. Amon and Mr Wimsett. The party was followed' by a short dance, which was greatly enjoyed by the young people, voluntary music being supplied by Miss E, Hodge (piano) and Mr H. Allen (cornet). It is the intention of the Hall Committee to give points prizes at the end of the season, one having already been donated by Mr C James. Notwithstanding the late night previous a great crowd assembled at the football ground on Saturday to witness the event of the football season, Married v Single. Both teams took the field with. full intention of keeping up their reputations. The old "Has Beens" on the married side again donned their jerseys which in most cases had done active service in the good old days. The game throughout was very exciting and caused much amusement for the spectators. After a very tough struggle the Benedicts were victorious by 19 points to 11. Mr C. Kelly had charge of the whistle and gave every satisfaction. Remarks were passed after the match by some of the bachelors that it was their intention to join the noble ranks of the Benedicts before they meet again. Ladies beware 1 To wind up the football season the local club is, holding its annual ball on i Wednesday, next, and with good [ weather it promises to be a big success as the committee are hard at work getting things in really good working order I Good musicians have been engaged, so the dancing public can rely upon having a good time.
