I OUTRAGE IN A WELLINGTON v STREET. OkESS ASSOCIATION^ WELLINGTON, May 25. While going along Clyde quay about 9 on Saturday night a young married man, John Forbes, Orr, was suddenly attacked by a man who stabbed him in the neck, , inflicting a severe wound which just missed the jugular vein. The assailant, who also threatened to shoot Orr, then calmly walked away as if nothing had happened. There appears to have been no reason whatever for the outrage. Tht assailant" was a big burly man, unknown to Orr, who is of small physique. The injury is i;ot likely to have any more serious resu t. than of incapacitating Orr for some J days. MISCELLANEOUS. EKETAHUNA, May 25. Mr H. E. Mowbray's nine-roomed house' at Hukanui was destroyed by fire. Mr and Mrs Mowbray were absent in Masterton, and the lady help left the premises to visit the post office. A little later the fire was discovered. Only a few effects were saved. ' The insurance ' was, £650 on the house and £350 on the furniture, in the London, Liverpool and Globe. HOKITIKA, May 25. The residence of Mr G. Bruce, Mayor of ,Ross, was destroyed by fire. The residence was doomed when the fire was discovered. The insurances are unknown. WELLINGTON, May 25. At the Supreme Court to-day no evidence was offered in the case of Annie Borrie, charged with the theft of a distress warrant, the Crown Prosecutor stating that he was satisfied that the act committed by prisoner, though wrongful, was devoid of any intent which- would bring her act within the definition of theft. Prisoner had snatch- j ed the* warrant from the bailiff with the intention of embarrassing him in the execution of his duty. I
