HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE, j [PSEBS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, May 25. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commioner, dated London, 23rd May: — i "Mutton — The market -s quiet. There is a 'scarcity of prime quality mutton, | especially Canterbury, with a limited j demand for poorer grades. Canterbury brands are quoted at 4^d and North Island 3§d. Lamb — There is a limited demand. Large shipments are arriving from New Zealand. Canterbury lamb is quoted at s£d and other than Canterbury at S£d. Beef — The market is dull and prices are irregular owing to* the competition of good quality Argentine. New Zealand's hind-quarters are quoted at 3£d and forequarters at 3d. Butter — The market is quiet, but moderate business is do^ng. Choicest New Zealand Butter is quoted at 110s, Danish Ills, Australian 103s, Siberian 100s. ' , Cheese — The market is steady. New Zealand white makes are quoted at 60sand colored, which is in large supply, at 575. Canadian new season's make is quoted at 599. Wool — The market is advancing steadily for medium and coarse crossbreds of" all grades, which now show 5d premium over the closing rates at last sale. Merinos are, firm.
