FRISCO MAIL STEAMERS
TO RESUME RUNNING SHORTLY.
The San Francisco Examiner of March 22 -stated: Little time will be .wasted by. the. Oceanic Steamship Company in arranging for a resumption of business on the San Francisco and Sydney routes, following the passage of the Ship Subsidy. Bill at Washington. The three steamships formerly on the line, the Sierra, Sonoma and Ventura,' have been maintained here in first-class conditipn ever since they were laid up' last year. A year has, almost elapsed since the Spreckles Company went out of businesß(<)n- the i 'Australian and New Zealand * ; rojjte.H rTheiiYentura, which was] sent to an anchorage in Mission Bay after the completion of her last voyage, has been here since April 16th. The Sonoma, which was in the service of "the Pacific Coast Company for a short time following the abandonment > of the Sydney .line, has been at anchor in Mission Bay since August 31 last, and the Sierra has been at anchor neiar by since October 4> after she had made several, voyages between this city and Honolulu^ - ' Ever since the liners were taken off the San Francisco and Sydney route complaints from the New Zealand and .^ustraliari' people have been loud and frequent, for the Tying up of the steamers removed their best and quickest r meanß of .reaching Great Britain.- About SI days was the usual time consumed, as against 35 or more by any other route.
