OAMARU, April 15.. A fine was discovered in the lower storey of A. andi D. Simpson's furniture warehouse this evening at 7.30 o'clock, and it waa • extinguished only after the place had been flooded with water. The fire started amongst some flax, and had spread to other inflammable material. The insurances are £150 in the South British and £750 in the Royal Assurance. The fumibuxe and stock was not much damaged, but the extent of the loss cannot be asoertaired till after an overhaul. . INVERCARGILL, April 15. A five-roomed house occupied by Thomas Hunt and family at Waikiwi was burned this evening. The children were alone in the house, and one, while looking with a candle for a plaything, set fire to the sofa. The children got out just in time< GORE, April 15. A fire destroyed three business places im Bridge «toreet, opposite the scene of the recent fire. The fire started at tha back of F. Thorn's bootmaker's shop, which had been occupied as a dwelling, but at present was unoccupied!. The flames spread to Quilter's fruit and confectionery shops, which were destroyed, ,I>ut a cordial factory isn the Tear was saved. B. Downes' blacksmith and) implement premises were jicxt destroyed. The latter contained a considerable ■amount of machinery owned by J. Lowdon, eenr. The insurances amount to £1000, and the loss over that is- estiI mated at £600.
