THE CONCERT.

( At the Athenaeum Hall on Thursday eAerr'noj there was a large attendance, and the general opinion was that thr> jvndience had listened to one of the finest programme;. 1 of music submitted fronr. the local ffrge. The performers were Mr Higham's Orchestra and Concert Company rf Haweri. Encores were the rule, the orchestral items especially being greatly appreciated. The door receipts amounted to about £22. The programme wa3 as follows: March, "Invincible," orchestra; solo, "'Bis: *ten." Mr L. Hooker; overture, "Zethus," orchestra; solo, "In Old Madrid," Miss Enclesfield ; mandoline ' solo, Miss Jessie Connell (encored) ; humorous song;, Mr Slater, "That's enough for me" (encored) ; etfee, "Now tramp o'er moss and fell," choir (encored) ; ■pivzicato selection, orchestra (encorerft; duet, "When the wind blows," Miss B. Flynn and Mr Hiccham ; violin duet, Miss Jennie and Mr W. Hutrhens; fantasii, "Storm Kins'," orpfcfstra; solo. "Lilacs,"' Miss B Flynn. (encored) : humorous song, "So 51 was," Mr Slater (encored) ; overtrre. "Lo Diadem." orchestra; solo "Still in the night," Mr Hooker; violin solo, Mr W. Hutchens ; glee, "Here in cool grot," choir; £rand valse, "Aaisretentanzfi," orchestra. The hall was crowded to the doors. I see by ths Stab that this concert company intends to perform at Manaia on Wednesday e^ eninp;-,next. .This being* the case 1 should like to warn my friends of the Plains that to miss hearing these muficians would be to miss a real musica! treat. ■ . >
