ODDFELLOWS' SPORTS

The sports promoted this year oy tli <i Oddfellows in Kaponga were to have heen held on the King's Birthcay, btit r owing to the very unfavorable wesither, the meeting had to be put off. Yesterday was selected for the pestponed gathering, and excellent weather was obtained. The business piemises of the' town were closed, and generally great enthusiasm was shown by the committee to disprove the popular idea that a postponed meeting is always unsuccessful. There was a very fair attendance, the gross gate takings amounting to nearly £20. The nominations were very large, and it was anticipated tbnt the entrance moneys would pay the prizes, which, ■were/ allotted on a liberal scale. The programme was varied and interesting. The jumping competitions caused great amusement, chiefly owing to "Mie '-vttle idea that some ' of the horses had of leaping. The Kaponga Band under Bandmaster Eccleston played a number of selections in good style, adding much to the enjoyment of those who were present.
