SLAUGHTER.

AUCKLAND, January 25. The inquest on the reooveiisd bodies of the victims of the Kapanui disaster, which occurred in the harbor off North Head on the night of December 23, concluded today. The jury brought in a verdict that the death of Clarke was due to crushing, while that of Heavey and Fletehe was due to drowning, and that the deaths of all three were occasioned by the improper navigation of James SoutKgate, then Captain of th.3 Kapanui.
