KAPONGA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The Church of England garden party, held at Mr Alf. Tait's grounds, Kaponga, passed off very successfully. Cricket and croquet were provided for the girls and boys and a number of competitions for the grown up people. The hunt for the* hidden treasure caused great amusement, the token representing the treasure being found by Miss Hughes in a small pill box concealed in a spider's web on the lawn. Nail-driving competitions were won by Miss West and Mrs Thompson, and a duck was awarded as a prize to a lady who shelled green peas with lightning rapidity. Liberal refreshments were provided by the ladies of St. Mark's congregation. A very enjoyable day was concluded by the vicar thanking the ladies and others who so ably managed the whole affair, and particularly Mt and Mrs Tait for thfdr help and use of grounds. Three cheers were given for the host and hostess before the people .departed.
A slight 6hock of earthquake! was felt here about 9.30 a.m. on Sunday last. From all accounts Kaponga will be deserted on Thursday next, the Hawera contest being the attraction.
