NORTH v. SOUTH ISLAND.
The following notes on the northern players are- contributed to the Wellington Post by "Bulger" :— Goal, Ryburn (Victoria (.College), has proved himself a reliable custodian of the- sticks, and never loses his head, but a. more vigorous use of his privilege to kick would be an improvement. Full-backs : Armstrong (Wanganui), a strong clean hitter, and a player of the reliable order ; playing the best game in Wanganui this year; Swinburne (Taranaki), one of Taranaki's most prominent players, and has had plenty of experience. Wing-halves : Reid (captain) has been a loading half in Wellington for many years, has a thorough knowledge of the gam-e, is nob a strong hitter, and has his day off; Skelley (Victoria College), a young player who has made rapid strides in tho game, is better in defence than in attack, and is very persistent. Centrehalf : .Strange (Wanganui) keeps his place well, is" heady, and feeds his forwards. Wing-forwards : Allan (Wellington), as fin© a wing as I know, keeps his place, and is clever with stick, knowning when and how to centre j Bunny (Cartertbn), a sound player, with apco. Inside-forwards : Cos (Wanganui), a fast, dashing player, with ability to shoot; Hull (Wellington) is playing a fine game this year, always keeps going, is good charger, and a consistent scorer. Bully : Beere (Victoria College), a, fast forward, a good dribbler, who never tires, but is inclined to nurse the ball.
The match takes place at- Christchurch on Thursday (to-morrow).
